Mass culture and cultural industry

In this semester, there was so many interesting subjects like italiano, epistemología and radio, but nothing better than cultura de masas e industria cultural (mass cultura and cultural industry)! Wake up early and arrive at 8.30 in the university is always terrible, but enter to the class room and watch the teacher talking about the history of tv, concepts like modernity and post-industrial capitalism, is a kind of  incentive to be in class.
Last friday, the teacher show us a movie called Uno que ha sido marino, a chilean film from the 1951, and told us about the tension between being localist and cosmpolitan when you make a movie. The movie wasn't Ibsen: was more like the chilean Adam Sandler, but was interesting when you see that in context. In that time, the cinema was always focused in the working class, and show the histories of poor people, even in comedy. Against that, we could see the TV inclination to show middle-class families in sitcoms, avoiding the class conflicts. Anyway, the study of that kind of phenomenon is very interesting to me.

  1. Of course that's so interesting, but I had last year at 8:30am "Historia y Política de Chile Contemporáneo" with a teacher that loved to cancel classes minutes before the beginning of the class and that was disgusting. I woke up for no reason many many times :(
